“After about ten minutes I became mesmerized.
It was almost as if I was seeing Vivien again.”

Blown away by wind star tribute

One guest at the premiere of Jermyn Street show Vivien Leigh – The Last Press Conference had heaps more critical sway than even the most leathery old hack in the audience.

Tarquin Olivier, no less – son of Larry and first wife Jill Esmond – was eager to see what writer and performer Marcy Lafferty would make of his famous stepmother. It seems he was impressed.

“It was quite extraordinary. I was reminded of so many things,” he told Tabard. “After about ten minutes I became mesmerized. It was almost as if I was seeing Vivien again.”

No hard feelings either - although the younger Olivier’s father began an affair with Leigh just two months after he was born, he is adamant that he experienced “lots and lots of love” from the Gone With The Wind star.

But truly remarkable is not the head turning physical resemblance he shares with his father, rather that he has never considered a career in show business. Until now, at the grand age of 65.

“I have started working as a film producer” he confided. “My children have all been educated. I have retired from my job and it is something that interests me. Why not?”
